July’s Pledge of the Month is from a Carbon Literacy course I delivered to a group of year nine students in June this year. This was the youngest group we’ve ever delivered Carbon Literacy training to, and they had some of the most insightful and challenging questions I’ve ever heard in a session!
I love this pledge for two reasons.
Firstly because it’s so creative. The idea of making something new from clothes we no longer want is such an innovative way to reduce the carbon impact of our wardrobes.
The second thing that stood out to me is that this participant is looking at several different ways that greenhouse gas emissions show up in relation to her clothes. It’s really helpful to look at these things holistically, as it helps us ensure we’re seeing the bigger picture, rather than just tackling one small aspect of an issue.
For this project we used our Carbon Literacy for 12-18 year olds course, one of the only accredited Carbon Literacy courses available to secondary school students.
