In June 2025, I delivered Carbon Literacy training to a group of year-nine students at Mount St Mary’s Catholic High School in Leeds. As part of the session I asked the students to write – alone or in groups – postcards from their future, to their current selves. These postcards talked about their family lives, interests and careers, and about what the world looks like in a future where we’ve addressed climate change and all the other intertwined issues the world is facing today.
This kind of positive imagining exercise is a really powerful way to get clarity on what is important to you and your communities, so you can focus on what you want to change and how to get there.
Watching the students presenting these was the highlight of the course for me. There was a real mix of emotions coming up as I listened…prepare yourself for a rollercoaster!
