August’s Pledge of the Month is from our ongoing work with Network Rail. We’re working with teams across several Network Rail regions, and this pledge came from a session I ran in May with Network Rail Eastern.
I’ve chosen this pledge because it gets to the heart of Network Rail’s ‘superpower’ when it comes to climate action.
In our sessions, we often talk about the unique or specific role each organisation or sector has within decarbonisation. With law firms it tends to be the influence they have with their clients, with universities it might be the research they’re able to do. With Network Rail, its the ability to reduce the number of cars on the road by enabling people to travel more by rail. This pledge has significant potential to accelerate this work, and so really stood out as exemplary.
I also love this pledge because of the planned approach of identifying the ‘collation of the willing’. Often a great first step in taking action is finding those in your existing networks that are already keen to do more – creating a community of people that are already engage can be crucial to the success of any initiative.
