Pledge of the Month – April 2025

April’s Pledge of the Month is from Managing Associate Aliki Zeri at legal firm Foot Anstey.

Speak Carbon’s Pete Watkins delivered a pilot cohort of Carbon Literacy training with Foot Anstey in January this year.

This pledge caught my eye because it’s focus is on what are often referred to in the legal sector as ‘scope 4 emissions’. These are the advised emissions any firm working in an advisory capacity has the potential to influence. Advised emissions are relevant to a number of different sectors, including Architecture, as we saw in last month’s PotM.

Advised emissions have a particular value however in the legal sector. Clients in this sector expect to have complex and nuanced discussions with the law firms they hire, making these relationships ideally suited to conversations around decarbonisation and climate change.

The outcome from this pledge – a guide that colleagues can use across the business to support colleagues to have climate conversations with their clients – is a tangible, practical tool. The guide will significantly improve the impact of these interactions, and empower more colleagues working across different sectors within the firm to have conversations with their clients that they might not otherwise have.
