March’s Pledge of the Month is from a Director at architectural firm Corstorphine & Wright.
We delivered two cohorts of Carbon Literacy training with C&W at the start of the year, one online and one in-person. The Firm opted to use the Climate Fresk pathway for the in-person session, which worked really well to help participants map out the causes and impacts of climate change as a group.
This pledge stuck out to me because of it’s simplicity and potential for impact.
By taking the learning from the course into conversations with clients, Jim is levering his agency to create real change. This concept of ‘advised emissions’ is relevant to so many of the sectors we work in. Every organisation needs to decarbonise their own operations, but so often the highest potential impact they can have on reducing emissions is in the influence they have with their clients and suppliers.
By talking to clients about C&W’s own carbon reduction strategies, Jim is opening a door to climate conversations without judgement or expectations. Normalising these conversations encourages clients to start thinking and talking about what they are doing to reduce emissions. The construction industry is one of the leaders on global emissions. Talking openly about the actions that can be taken to reduce the embedded carbon from demolition and building new is key to curbing these emissions.
