The second in our ongoing series of Carbon Literacy pledge examples.
The pledge we’re sharing with you this month is a group pledge. You can take a look at last month’s example, which was an individual pledge here.
Our intention is to provide you, the intrepid carbon-reduction pledge-maker with an array of our best pledges. To give you the broad insight, we’ll alternate between the individual pledge and group pledges. We’ll also cover a range of sectors so you can see what emissions reducing actions people are committing to in roles similar to yours and in other industries.
The Faculty and Beyond – What make this a great pledge!
Back to this month’s pledge! The reason this example is so good, is the way participant recognises her influence when implementing her action. Not only is it a group pledge which clearly explains who is involved and the team’s agency, it also acknowledges the ripple effect which can be created by communicating the successes to other faculties within University of Hull.
Climate in the Education Sector
We always enjoy working in the education sector for universities and colleges across the country, and even the world. That because the training opens up huge opportunities to develop young minds for their future roles in relation to climate strategy. Students have the abilities to change their current actions to lower their emissions.
However, in time they will leave their learning environment to employment in many diverse roles and locations. These Carbon Literate citizens will be in places and positions where they can influence and encourage climate-conscious policies, strategies and behaviours.
Additionally, tutors and policy makers play a crucial part in ensuring our future leaders integrate environmental sustainability into their embedded thinking.
If you work in a secondary school or sixth form college, you can also read about our work in a schools.
Cumulative Effect
The sum of the parts is greater than the pieces. Supporting students and staff to write meaningful pledges, has a massive potential to shape carbon reduction worldwide. By sharing this example, we hope to inspire future participants to make their own great pledges.
