What makes a good climate pledge?
“Can you give us some examples of good Carbon Literacy pledges?”
That’s something we’re frequently asked for during our pledge workshops at the culmination of their Carbon Literacy training.
Whilst all individual and group pledges to reduce carbon emissions should be unique to each participant’s circumstances and life experience, we’re going to share some of the best pledges, as examples, in this feature “Pledge of the Month.”
This one’s an Individual Pledge
We chose this to be the first one because banking and pension services are often overlooked as good climate-conscious actions. It was made by a participant of a Local Authorities training session.
Where you place your money with services including banking and pensions can have a big impact on future climate-friendly development. Yet they’re relatively easy to implement. Not only that, but also, this pledge writer understood her influence in encouraging others to implement similar actions themselves.
Even better, this pledge has a date included for when she’s going to complete the process of changing her bank to a green and ethical choice.
The only thing we’ve removed is the name of the bank, partly because we’re not FSA regulated. Additionally, it doesn’t feel right to endorse one particular bank (although there aren’t currently many to choose from). You can find out more about green banking here.
