We deliver our Training Professionals programme both to specific organisations and as an open course. Learn more about our latest open courses here.
One of the core values of Carbon Literacy is that it can be delivered by anyone, and that you don’t need to be a climate expert (or a sustainability angel!) to do it.
However, because Carbon Literacy is so different from most other training people encounter (especially in their workplaces), it can sometimes feel daunting to go from being a participant, to delivering the training.
Here’s just one testimonial from our Training Professionals programme:

Maintaining the high quality of training being delivered within the CL community – while at the same time enabling the fast-paced roll out of this learning that is so urgently needed – is a balancing act that the Carbon Literacy Project is all too aware of.
They have therefore developed a pathway to support people looking to deliver Carbon Literacy, whether in their workplaces to colleagues, or as freelance trainers in their own right. Speak Carbon’s Training Professionals course supports folks to make the most of this pathway.
Anyone delivering Carbon Literacy training must:
• Attend Carbon Literacy training as a participant.
• Submit an assessment evidence form.
• Receive a Carbon Literacy certificate.
• Attend a ‘Delivering Successful Carbon Literacy’ course run by the CLP.
• Deliver or be involved in the organisation of at least one cohort of Carbon Literacy training.
• Apply for Carbon Literacy Facilitator (CLF) accreditation.
• Receive a CLF certificate (free).
For those delivering CL training infrequently, informally or non-commercially; CLF accreditation is sufficient.
For those delivering CL frequently or commercially, the CLP recommends attending a Train the Trainer course and working towards Carbon Literacy Trainer (CLT) accreditation.
The pathway for this (having received CLF accreditation) is:
• Receive a CLF certificate.
• Attend a Carbon Literacy Train-the-Trainer course.
• Deliver a further five cohorts of Carbon Literacy training.
• Complete reflective accounts on each delivery.
• Log certificate numbers for at least 30 participants from these cohorts.
• Submit reflective accounts and certificate numbers to the CLP in order to receive CLT accreditation. Please note: CLT accreditation costs £250.
Our Training Professionals course has been designed to include all of the elements of the CLP’s ‘Delivering Successful Carbon Literacy’ course, giving participants the opportunity to practice delivery and gain feedback from their peers in the room. This means that those attending our course need not attend the DSCL course as well, and can start delivering Carbon Literacy and working towards CLF immediately on completion of the course.
What is covered in the course
Our Training Professionals course is two days of training. It can be delivered online over four half-day sessions, or in-person over two full days.
Workshop one covers facilitation skills – including what it takes to be a good CL facilitator, how to organise training sessions and how to ensure your training is accessible to, and inclusive of everyone.
Workshop two takes a deep-dive into the Carbon Literacy Standards – the document underpinning Carbon Literacy. Here participants are asked to explore the core values of CL and think about their strengths and develop areas as trainers.
Workshop three covers the content in the CLP’s ‘Delivering Successful Carbon Literacy’ course – including what makes a good pledge and some of the logistics around running a CL workshop.
Workshop four enables participants to put everything they’ve learned into practice by delivering a piece of a Carbon literacy course. For this session each participant is provided with materials from the Carbon Literacy course most relevant to them.
