May’s Pledge of the Month is from Network Rail Scotland.
We’ve been working with Network Rail across several routes in England for a while now, starting with Network Rail Eastern back in 2024.
Within Speak Carbon we often find that word of mouth is our strongest marketing tool, and that was certainly the case here. Folks in Network Rail Scotland’s sustainability team heard about our work from their colleagues in Eastern, and came to a session in February 2025. From there we began talking to the Scottish team, and we delivered our first cohort of training to them that August.
We are now delivering Carbon Literacy training with Network Rail Scotland regularly, and this month’s PotM came from a cohort I delivered in February this year.
This pledge is great because it shows the importance of monitoring. Often, in order to know where our efforts are best focused, we first need to record and monitor the situation. Understanding where raw materials and resources sit within NR Scotland’s stores, is a huge part of being able to redeploy them for future use elsewhere.
