February’s Pledge of the Month is from a cohort I delivered with Network Rail Eastern in York back in November 2025.
More and more in our sessions, we’re supporting participants to come up with group pledges with colleagues who’re in the room with them. This kind of collaborative working is a really powerful way to create transformative climate action. This pledge is therefore something that several people in the room came up with alongside Jacob, as it’s really quite a large and ambition piece of work.
This pledge has two parts, both of which have been really well thought out. Spending time in sessions to discuss and plan in-depth, exactly what a pledge is going to look right in practice, makes successful implementation of ideas much more achievable. This is why we spend a good chunk of the time we have in the room with people, supporting them to do this planning work.
The first part of the pledge highlights the importance of embedding carbon impact assessment mechanisms at the very start of projects, to ensure carbon reduction is front and centre for all new work.
The second part shows a real understanding of the importance of circular economy. Reducing the manufacture of new materials is one of the most direct things any organisation can do to reduce carbon within their operations.
Our ongoing work with Network Rail is becoming one of our biggest projects.
