Pledge of the Year 2025

December’s Pledge of the Month is our final pledge for 2025, which makes it our Pledge of the Year!

This pledge comes from a course we recently delivered to a group of community leaders and organisers in Edinburgh, as part of our work with Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN).

We don’t get to work with community groups anywhere near as often as we’d like, so its been really exciting to be able to work with ECCAN. Fellow CLT John Sutton and I shared delivery of this cohort, so we both got to meet these truly inspirational folks building climate action in community groups in the Edinburgh region.

This one cohort came up with some of the most creative pledges I’ve ever seen, including those around forming a climate choir, to engage the public on the urgency of climate action. This pledge though, is the one that really stuck out to me. Creating a ‘pop-up’ space where community members can meet, learn skills and share knowledge is such a fantastic idea. It’s a great example of a pledge where although emissions reductions may not be front and centre, it has potential to bring together people that will go on to take action on climate in immeasurable ways.

Making spaces for people to spend time thinking creatively together and talking about the issues we’re facing – those directly related to climate changes and all the others – is a hugely powerful step in moving towards the societal shifts we so desperately need.
