August’s Pledge of the Month is from a Product Manager at law firm Irwin Mitchell.
Irwin Mitchell is one of several law firms with whom we’ve been working over the past few years.
I chose this pledge this month because it’s a great example of the power of influence. Influence is something we talk about a lot in our training sessions. There are several different types of influence that can be used to bring about positive change, my personal favourite being showcasing. This is – in short – finding great actions that are already being taken and shouting about them!
This pledge is particularly interesting because it tips that idea on it’s head a little. Instead of influencing other people’s behaviour by showcasing the great work the firm is already doing (and there are definitely lots of examples of great work at this firm); the pledge talks about being actively influenced by the actions being taken in other organisations. This is achieved by listening to the stories of new colleagues as they join. Proactively seeking opportunities to be positively influenced by the actions of others is a fantastic approach to sharing best practice and learning from each other.
